Agham Kot

The site of Agham Kot is located about 33.88 km north-east of Matli city and about 1.88 km north of Ghulab Khan Leghari. It can be accessed from Ghulab Laghari via link road. The historic city of Agham Kot also locally known as Aghamano has been mentioned in old historic documents Chach Nama and Tohfat-ul-Karam, as a town which was situated on the bank of old course of river Indus and flourished for years, it was the capital town of Buddhist ruler Raja Agham Luhano who ruled the area before the Arabs invaded Sindh. The city was destroyed by an Afghan invader Madad Khan Pathan who ransacked the whole city at the end of 18th century, whereas some scholars relate its decline on the change in the river course which once flowed beside it. Agham Kot is a large settlement site with profusion of cultural material scattered in various parts of the site. Presently it is in a ruinous condition. It is encroached by agricultural activities surrounding the site, resulting in the loss of evidence of earlier period.
