Asif Jah Mosque

It is located near the tomb of Emperor Jahangir inside the Shahdara Complex of Mughal Monuments in Shahdara town, union council Shahdara, Ravi Tehsil. In the middle of western row of the chambers/ cells of the Sarai, stands a grand mosque with impressive lofty arches and inlay work typical of Shahjahan period, composed of similar elements as the gateways of Sarai contain. The rectangular prayer hall of the mosque has three bays with three domes and entrance from the west. The mosque is clad in red sandstone with decorations. The interior of the mosque was probably once embellished with frescoes and Ghalib kari. There was an ablution tank in the rectangular courtyard in front of the mosque, which is now in very bad state of preservation. The decoration work in the mosque has completely vanished with the passage of time and during its occupation as residence during the British period. This mosque was used during the British period in the 19thcentury as a private European residence and was damaged to suit the needs of the residents. The mosque is structurally sound, but still needs conservation works.
