Marvi Well (Mari jo Khooh)

SindhWellProtected
It is located at Bhalwa village north of Islamkot Road. The site of well of Marvi is about 30 kilometers away from Nangar town in north and 10 kilometers from Virawah village.Mari jo Koonh (Marvi`s well) is home to several contradictory stories and legends. According to one legend, Marvi, a local Thari girl synonym with chastity, patriotism, simplicity, self-determination and modesty, was kidnapped by King Umer Soomro at the well`s spot, but she had found her ideal in Khet, a cousin who lived in a neighbouring village. At the site of the well has now been constructed a cultural centre, which now contain wax sculptures depicting the famous folktale. On one wall, a plaque praises Marvi`s refusal to give in to the king`s advances. Apparently, villagers revere Marvi because she preferred her village over a royal lifestyle. The well has been renovated and it still contains fresh water. The annual mela at the site of the well in honour of the legendary figures of Marvi is commemorated with traditional zeal and enthusiasm near her native village Bhalwa, by the Marvi Yadgaar Cultural Committee, Bhalwa.
