Old House Gulmit

The old house Gulmit is located along the Karakoram Highway on the left side of Hunza River, close to Cultural Museum Gulmit. The oldest intact house in Gulmit is more than six centuries old. Most People in the entire Gojal Valley have Central Asian ancestral backgrounds. The people speak Wakhi language and belong to the Shia Imam Ismaili sect of Islam. Population of Gulmit, according to 2016 survey, consists of around 5000 individuals. Ancient bronze utensils, pots, rugs, dresses, and many other household objects are exhibited and showing the culture of the era in modern day. The house is double storey built in stone mud and wood of pine and walnut trees. The house has several rooms consist of bedrooms, kitchen, storerooms, and a gathering place (old dining hall). A museum is housed on the ground floor depicting the two hundreds of household objects, agriculture and farming tools, music instruments, dresses, and photographs. The house is exteriorly, and interior is mud plaster. The upper storey consists of storerooms are badly damaged by due to non-maintenance and crack appeared in the building.
