Sassi Da Kallara or Kallar (Temple)

An old temple called Kallar or Sassi da Kallara, situated at a height of about 335 m above sea-level and about 5 km south of the village of Shah Muhammad Waqil. It is on the edge of a hillock rising steeply from the bank of the Kas leti, one of the torrents, tributary to the Soan stream. The temple is in a dilapidated condition mostly owing to the continuous wearing away of the soft sandstone hillside on the edge, it stands on. The temple measures 6.8 x 5 x 7.1 m. It is a square of 2.2 m at the interior with 4.4 m height. It is built of large bricks, with 5.08 cm thickness and the length ranging between 4.7 m to 43 cm or more and the breadth varying from 25 to 26.6 cm. The bricks are decorated with incised designs of a simple character on the outer walls. The temple faces towards east, commanding a wide view in that direction as well as to the north.
