Hindu Temple, Mirpur

The temple is situated in Purana Mirpur in the center of Mangla Dam Lake, presently submerged due to Mangla reservoir. The site can be seen in the moth of Late January and February, which is season of low water level in the said reservoir. It is located at a distance of 20 minutes by boat in the North-west of Mirpur City, and approached by Mirpur Bypass to Mangla reservoir. It is square in plan. This is built on the plinth of burnt bricks and the walls are plastered. Its strategic location is of great interest. The walls of the temple are decorated with pseudo-arches. The over-all structure is little tilted, probably, because of water. The walls of the temple are well. The entrance is partially damaged. There is no painting and cult object inside the temple. The temple is in good state of preservation, even though remains completely submerged about 9 months of the year in Mangla reservoir. The monument is tentatively belongs to the Dogra Raj of Kashmir.
