Burjun Fort

The fort is located at a hilltop in north-east of Mirpur city, on the west of the village Burjun, and approached by a link at main road from Mirpur to Kotli at distance of 7 km. The fort is located on a cliff at hilltop in the north-east of Mirpur city, and in the north of Islam Garh and in the east of Mirpur to Chakswari main road. The fort is irregular in plan. It is built up with dressed stones and river pebbles; lime mortar has been used as binding material. It has been lime-plastered on both interior and exterior. Local people used it as a quarry and plundered dressed stones to rebuilt or construct private houses. Even these stones have been used in the construction of Government owned Primary School located to the south of the fort. There is a water tank located inside the southern portion of the fort. Due to negligence, most parts of this grand structure have collapsed. The fortification wall on the east measures 28.33 m, that on the north is 19 m, the one on the south is 17 m and that on the west is 24 m.
