Ghazi Shah

This is a small site located approximately six km south and southeast of Tando Rahim Khan, near the northeastern foothills of the Bhit Range. This settlement is near at about two km east of Pir Ghazi Shah Tomb and locally known as Gaji Shah and/or Mari Kharh. There is a perennial spring which originates in the Bhit Range and flows close to the site. This perennial water source is utilized for drinking and agricultural purposes as well. The site extends over 160 m N/S and 130 m E/W with total height of 11 m from the surrounding ground surface and occupies total 20,800 sq.m area. The site was first excavated by Majumdar in 1934 and followed by Flam 1981, 85-87. These investigations revealed Amrian as an earliest occupation and that was followed by a mixed layer contains elements from both the Amrian and Indus period. These levels continued into a purely Indus period level(s). From this settlement a huge list of cultural items is reported which includes as the pottery shapes and sizes, bull figurines, miniature cart frames terracotta, steatite, carnelian, agate, and copper beads, a copper ring, terracotta and copper bangles, copper objects, a leaf shaped arrowhead with tang of copper, copper awl and chisel, chert flake tools, and a silver ring fragment were other finds. The site is very important as it is located very close to the Bhit Range that open to a wide area of alluvial plain extends to the Manchar Lake and Indus Plains. Thus, the Gazi Shah must have been the junction in between the Baluchistan and Indus Plain communities.
