Yasin Valley

This is an important side valley is Yasin. Already before its entrance in the main Gilgit valley locally called Koh, stone circles made from large boulders are to be seen often with a second layer on top and a filling of gravel. They occur at several places inside Yasin and higher up in the Ghizir valley. They were already described by Biddulph as Circular Stones Sepulchral Mounds while Prof. Dani also published one of them as Megalithic Stone Circle from the 1st millennium BC. He said that there were more graves nearby. The most plausible explanation is to consider such structures as Thalli i.e., platforms which were erected during festivals for persons who should be honored for their activities and generosity, feasts of merit were an integral part of the local culture and are often rewarded by such constructions. In Central Asia they occur in many places.
