Mehdiabad Group of Petroglyphs and Inscription

The village of Mehdiabad formerly called Parkuta can be reached through a metal led road about 10 km from Humayun Bridge. The group of carvings preserved several beautifully carved stupas in traditional Tibetan style, a Bodhisattva Matriya/ Avalokitesvara in Tibetan features, a Brahmi inscription and two painting sites which will be described separately. Carvings are found on stones in Mehdiabad and paintings at the above said sites. More than 50 ibexes were also recorded. The architectural parts of the stupas: base, drum, dome, harmika and a yasti are clearly visible. Some stupas possess umbrellas, rain protector, banners and bells. The region of Mehdiabad was a Buddhist center in the past and has attracted a great deal of attention from archaeologists. In this particular area two painting sites and several small carving sites are remarkable.
