Lupa Group Of Carvings

The Mohallah of Lupa, village Nar is situated on the right bank of Indus. The site is about 3 km from the main Skardu- Khaplu road connected through a suspension bridge. The huge boulder, preserving carvings of stupas and inscriptions and about 12.1 m high and 15.5 m wide in north south direction at the eastern end of the village. Locally the boulder is called Borando Fong. The smooth face of the boulder is steep like a wall preserve some of the best carvings of stupas accompanied with inscriptions in Kharoshti and late Barahmi. There are 31 carvings, two inscriptions, an ibex. Among the carvings 23 are stupas, made by pecking on the smooth surface of the rock.
