Haldi Group Of Rock Carvings

Haldi village is the gate way of Mashbum sub-division and connected roads from Khaplu through Ghurse village and from Hushey valley through Marzigon village respectively. It is one of the ancient places in that region and remains of an old fortress on a spur standing in middle of the River Saltoro, which is the royal, seat of Beg Manthal, the raja of that region. In the 17th century Haldi was a strategic village for the Khaplu kingdom primarily due to its location at the confluence of the Saltoro and the Hushe rivers. It is the birth place of famous Balti poet Bwa Johar Ali. The Khanqah is said to be 620-year-old, which has a beautifully decorated entrance verandah with detail lattice work and wooden arches. Above the village in the pasture land 19 boulders with 239 carvings are found. Mostly ibexes are carved. Among others human figures, star symbols, etc.
