Chaghrdu Paintings, Nar Village, Shiger

The painting covers on a small area. The distance between the surface of the land and the lower edge of the painting is 4 m. The painting is done on a white washed base with two colors i.e. dark red main line drawing and ochre for coloring the dresses. At the time of its discovery, the painting was covered with a thick layer of mud clods. The Chaghrdu paintings site is only the large-sized rock paintings known in Baltistan. The motifs depicted refer to the seven precious possessions of the cakravertin; queen, minister, general, jewel, wheel, horse and elephant. The fresco attests to the significant period of prosperity of Buddhism in the 12th century CE.
