The Gilgit Bridge, running 129.5 m long over the torrential rapids of the Gilgit River, was built during 1895 and 1896, at the end of the city`s traditional bazar. Historically, it was strictly prohibited from traversing the bridge while mounted on horseback, and people were not allowed to smoke or carry lamps while crossing.
