Saling Chhotron

Saling village is situated on the right bank of River Shyok opposite Khaplu town. This village is one of the tourist spots in Khaplu valley. During the Buddhist period it was also a resting place, where these fine carvings of Buddhist religion are found. Saling was remained a ruling capital of Yabgo Dynasty before shifting to Khaplu town. The carvings are preserved on the rock above the old mosque, carved in Tibetan style. Such stupa carvings are found at Manthal Skardu and other parts of the region and in Ladakh. A Boddhisattva is also carved beautifully. Due to out of reach of the people the carvings are well preserved. These carvings are of late Buddhist period.
