Raja Zafar Ali Khan Mosque

Raja Zafar Ali Khan, the Mir of Nagar, constructed this mosque just before the foundations of the Sikandarabad settlement were laid in the 1900s. The mosque is situated south of the Sikandarabad polo ground and a historic biak (space for communal gathering). It is located on a slightly raised stone platform, and is easily visible from its surrounding areas, as well as from the KKH (Karakoram Highway). It has a tapered roof and is rectangular in its plan. The wooden arches on its two-sided verandah reflect the carvings and designs of Kashmiri architecture. The wooden interior and exterior of this mosque are extraordinary, and the details on its wooden joints are unique. The traditional cribbage and cator structures have been incorporated into the base, as well as into the upper structure of the mosque.
