Raja Palace Ghulmet

This palace is in the neighborhood of the Astana of Syed Shah Wali - a historic watchtower, and a biak with a water reservoir. According to Raja Hissam-ud -Din, Shah Walis great grandmother originally constructed this palace. The succeeding rulers of Nagar then amended this building according to their needs and tastes. Raja Muzaffer -ud- Din brought artisans and craftsmen from Kashmir to complete the construction of this palace as it stands today, and it was during his time that characteristics of Kashmiri and colonial architecture were infused into the building. It features an arched verandah on its northern side, and another verandah to the west. The corner between these verandahs is occupied by two semi - octagonal balconies, each known as a Jharoka. There is an additional upper Jharoka on the western side. The semi-circular arches of the verandahs reflect a colonial influence, while the floral designs lining the ceiling and the Mughal-style Garden in front of the palace rather loudly bespeak a Kashmiri influence and design. The cribbage and cator structure of some of the oldest parts of the building is a feature of the traditional architecture of this region.
