Chandu Mosque

Chandu is a small village in the Theley valley, and lies on the left bank of Theley stream. This double-storey mosque is surrounded by several historic houses. The mosque was built using a traditional cribbage-and-cator technique, with stone, timber and adobe. The bottom floor serves as the winter mosque, and the upper-level functions as the main summer mosque. The primary mode of access to the summer mosque is through a staircase that leads an entrance balcony, into the main prayer hall. The upper floor has a verandah on two sides, decorated with wooden arches and a unique balcony on its south-western corner. This balcony has a beautiful khatamband (a local form woodcarving) on its ceiling. The rectangular prayer hall has four main wooden columns with capitals and bases.
