Upper Ghakhuch Jama`at Khana

Built on a high platform, Ghakhuch Jamaat Khana is part of an old cluster of buildings consisting of the Ghakuch settlement, a watchtower, and a polo ground. It also includes a Pir khana; a space similar to the jamaat khanas, used by the Ismaili community to host religious preachers/teachers during their visits, in a tradition was specific to the Ismaili community of Ghizir. The building was constructed over a square-shaped plan using a timber frame structure and rubble-stone, with mud used as an infill material for the walling. Its roof consists of a simple, flat structure, the load of which is borne by columns. The Jamaat Khana also has a verandah on two of its sides a feature commonly found within other traditional religious buildings of Gilgit-Baltistan. The roof of the verandah rests on wooden pillars beautifully carved with floral designs and geometric patterns.
