Chilas-III

Chilas III site is designated around the sanctuary Chilas-II. The carvings are to be found on the surface of the rock barriers on both sides of Chilas-II, as well as on about 200 stones/boulders scattered on the slope between the river and the KKH. Carvings of the late and post Buddhist periods are predominant, there are also examples of prehistoric brushings showing caprine and birds. Some buildings are executed as triangles, filled with various patterns. They are crowned with different objects. Due to the strong abstracting manner of the representation, they might be Buddhist stupas or derivate thereof. On a rock face left are two axes are engraved, while above two warriors brandishing axes are to be seen. Those carvings are related to what A.H. Dani called the culture of the battle axe people.
