Kiya-a-Qalat

The site is located on the southern bank of the Nilag River on top of a low mountain, about 4 km west of proposed Gwadar-Turbat motorway. It is 12 km north of the new naval base in Dasht and 8 km from south-west of Dasht Kunchati. It is circular in shape with 40 m dia. and surviving height of 12 m. Signs of extensive illegal diggings are visible at the site. Traces of some rooms are also visible on the site which are rectangular in shape and interconnected with each other. The rooms are large in size, measuring 10 x 10 m, built in stone masonry and very much similar to the residential area of the Oshap mound. In all area, 12 rooms were documented. Large number of potshards are scattered on the site, which mostly consist of red and buff ware were decorated with vertical and horizontal bands having zoomorphic designs. Variety of beads including barrel-shaped, cylindrical and disc-shaped were found from the site. On the basis of cultural material, the site can be dated to 4th-3rd millennium BCE.
