Faiz Mohammad

This prehistoric site is situated 25 km away towards south of Quetta city in Degari plain. The site can be approached through Quetta-Sibi metaled road after 5 km drive on single road towards east in Digari valley. It is located close to a small village with the same name. the mound is irregular in shape and is approximately 91.4 x 61 m with maximum height of 15.2 m. It is badly damaged by the owner who constructed housed over the western part of the site. It was explored by Stein in 1927 and Piggott in 1946. Fairservis visited it in 1950 and laid trial trench. It was also visited by Dales and Mughals in 1972-73. The typical type of pottery related to Fair Muhamamd site is grey ware, which has three main variants. There was no stratigraphic differentiation in these varieties. The pots were almost invariably plates with ring bases. Other include fine grey undecorated ware made on wheel, black on grey ware with designs in the interior with motifs of horizontally multiple bands around the center of the interior of the vessel. The style of decorations represented on the pots were hanging loops, wary vertical, zigzag horizontal lines, papal leaves, saw-tooth designs, sunrays circle and dot snakes and floating sigmas. Black on red, painted ware found in period II of Killi Gul Mohammad Period III, IV of Mehrgarh and period I of Damb Sadaat to and Kechi Beg were represented here.
