Nindo Damb

The Chalcolithic site of Nindo-Damb in the vicinity of the Nindowari village is situated on the right bank of the river kud in wadh tehsil of Kalat district in south Baluchistan. It lies at a distance of about 395 km from Karachi at an altitude of 915 m and measures about 915 m x 366 m. As a result of archaeological excavations from 1962 to 1965 interesting results were achieved. On the eastern slopes some identified heaps of stones were found, representing probably the mixed debris of various building phases. This occupational level yielded pottery type of Kulli along with a number of terracotta figurines. The pottery bear painting of animals, mostly bulls with elongated striped body and circular eyes, and generally accompanied by birds, trees and foliage in either black or dark brown on a cream wash with additional bands of a light red colour or black on a brick-red background. As regards the terracotta figurines, they mostly represent women profusely adorned with bangles and necklaces. In some cases, they hold babies. A few of these are of typical Zhobe style with spiky headgear around their faces.
