Tor Dheri Site

The mound of Tor Dheri is situated about 3.5 km north of Dabarakot in Loralai district. It stretches across from the Anambar Valley in the east towards the curiously shaped mass of hills known as Dabar and divides the Thal Plan from the Duki bastion. The mound rises with its top to a height of about 24 m above the canals which carry water past Dabarkot to the principal village of Thall. On the north and east side, the facing wall of the base up to total height of I m showed a succession of mouldings gradually diminishing in height upward. The wall portion rising above them was decorated with slightly projecting pilasters. The capital had been destroyed in all cases. Hence the total height of the destroyed in all cases. Hence the total height of the base could not be determined. Access to the top of the base lay over stairs near the north-east corner. The width of the stairs is 3.5 m. The architectural design of this base corresponds very closely to that found at numerous ruined Buddhist stupas of the Peshawar valley and Swat.
