Pre-historic Mound (Near Harian Haider Zai)

A pre-historic mound lies near Harian Haider Zai in Loralai district. The mound is 200 m broad and 4.5 m high. It is covered with plentiful painted pottery which seemed to be belonging to the date pre-historic period but close by to the south small fragments of decorated pottery bearing a distinctly Chalcolithic appearance as well as some rudely worked flints were also noticed. Excavations were made at Sur-Jangal and whole of the mound prove to be composed of soft clayed soil mixed with but little of rubble. On the side of the trenches thin layers of pebbles were distinguishable on levels of about 0.9-1.8 m from the top. Only near the center at a depth of about 1.8 m harder clay was struck possibly indicating remains of a more solidly built wall of sun-dried bricks. There were also signs of a conflagration marked by reddened soil and ashes mixed with animal bones.
