Jhalawar Pass Tomb (Jhalawar)

An ancient burnt bricks-built tomb is situated at a distance of about 1.5 km north of the fort wall in Jhalawar Pass across the Jhalawar stream. Square in shape its each direction is 8.5 m long. Its lower portion is 3.6 m high which is surmounted with a dome of about 4.5 m height making its total height about 8.5 m. The outer face of the tomb is decorated with different symbols in cut and engraved bricks, such as swastika etc. The only arched shape entrance is in the eastern wall of the tomb which is 1.5 m high. Inside it fourteen graves are lying three among them are of children. Rectangular panels are arranged at the interior over which animals and birds` figures are laid. Besides, human and swastika impression are shown in red colour at various points. It is thickly mud plastered, which is lying damaged from place to place. The floor of the tomb is Kacchha one. In all four corners of the tomb are arched alcoves. There is an ancient Muslim grave yard close to the tomb in its northern direction. It covers an area of 137 x 91 m. Locally available stone boulders are lying over the graves. North-west of grave-yard are traces of ancient inhabitation. The site as well as grave-yards is being eroded by Jhalawar stream which flows along the eastern fringe of the ancient remains.
