The Gandhara Monastery Trail

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa & the Taxila valley · 9 stops · 1st c. BCE – 7th c. CE

From the mountain sanctuary of Takht-i-Bahi across the Peshawar basin to the urban sequence of Taxila — the monastic heart of the Buddhist world at the crossroads of South Asia, Persia and the Mediterranean. Includes the World Heritage properties of Takht-i-Bahi and Taxila's component sites.

The Salt Range Temple & Fort Route

Across the Salt Range escarpment: Hindu Shahi temple architecture, a Sikh and jogi mountain sanctuary, and the greatest garrison fortress of early Islamic South Asia — Pakistan's most recent World Heritage inscription.
